I trained as a rural economist and have run my own consultancy business for ten years, specialising in research and evaluation of community engagement, rural and third sector development. I was a founding trustee for the Rocking Horse Nursery at the University of Aberdeen in the late 1980's and a founding member of a local community transport umbrella group in Perth & Kinross in the 1990's.

Knowing how important it is to be able to account for performance and impact, I prepared social accounts for the Perth & Kinross Community Transport Group every two years between 2002-2007. In 2005 I attended a social audit masterclass in Edinburgh and went on to deliver a social audit cluster for community transport organisations in Scotland and to mentor a community rail partnership, in partnership with the Community Transport Association.

Since the completion of the social audit cluster, John Pearce and I have spent time working on the materials that emerged, developing what has become the Social Reporting Kit for Community Transport Organisations. The kit recognises that community transport organisations are likely to have similar aims and objectives and stakeholder groups and offers templates for planning and stakeholder consultation that groups can customise to their own requirements.

In 2008 I attended SROI training and extended my experience from writing social accounts, training and supporting impact assessment, to participating as a member of a social audit panel. In 2009, mentored by John Pearce, I chaired the audit panel for SES (where the SROI training came in useful!).
