Summary of experience in Social Accounting and Audit
I have been interested in the concept of how to best measure the added value of the social benefits delivered by social enterprises since working in the field in Birmingham from 1996. However it was not until 2005 that I became involved in Social Auditing through a meeting held at the offices of the Development Trust Association in Birmingham . Following this meeting a cluster of organisations in the West Midlands undertook to develop social accounts with the support of John Pearce and Alan Kay, together with the Social Accounting and Audit manual. Having followed the process through with these organisations I served the social audit panel for All Saints Action Network and Black Country Housing Association before attending the final day of the Masterclass in mid 2006. I have subsequently served on the panel of Moseley Community Development Trust and Chaired the panel of Dee Valley Community Partnership and twice for 'Survive'. I have also delivered several masterclasses and 'Introductions to Social Impact Measurement'. I have been invited to speak and deliver seminars at a number of conferences and events to a range of audiences, including the public sector. I am currently closely involved in working with Shropshire Council on establishing an effective way for the voluntary sector to demonstrate their impact when contracting with the Council.
I am a strong advocate for social accounting and the benefits it can contribute towards organisational development.
