My interest in social audit as an evaluation tool for the community, voluntary and social enterprise sectors arises from my experience as a board member, employee and consultant in these areas. I have also carried out assessments and evaluations on behalf of a funding agency, the Network for Social Change.
General Background
I worked as a coop member in wholefoods in the 70's, as a coop development worker in the 80's and as a consultant in community regeneration and organisational development in the 90's.
Since the late nineties I have become more closely involved in social enterprise and overseas development, mainly through working with CBS Network. I have monitored several projects in India, especially related to micro-credit. I currently project manage a programme working with tribal people in Rajasthan and a programme for implementing social accounting and audit throughout India. This programme works through an Indian organisation, the Centre for Social Innovation and Management which specialises in social enterprise training. The programme in India encompasses NGO's, social enterprises, corporates and Corporate Social Responsibility bodies. There is also a lot of interest from the public sector.
I have many years experience in facilitating groups and in preparing funding applications for organisations in the UK and overseas. I have worked long-term with Parent Network Scotland, a social enterprise offering training to parents, both as a Board member and as a facilitator.
Social Accounting Experience
I have been a qualified auditor for 3 years, chaired 7 social audit panels, both in the UK and India, mentored 2 new auditors, been a trainer on the Co-operative Development Scotland, Clackmannanshire and SAN India clusters, and run several introductory sessions on my own and with John Pearce and Alan Kay.
