Profile of Tor Justad

Summary of experience in Social Accounting and Audit

I have been involved in social auditing since the late 1980's when I was Manager of the Community Enterprise Support Unit (Central Region) Ltd.which provided development support, training and finance to over 50 community enterprises and credit unions. Staff in the Unit recognised that in developing and promoting community enterprise it was important to include social, environmental and cultural objectives when assessing any proposal. A simple model was developed and seminars held to encourage community enterprises to measure their "social benefit" and "social capital" alongside economic performance.

Following this initial work I worked as a freelance Social Economy and Social Auditing Adviser from 1996 to 2001 and was involved in planning and delivering training programmes and seminars on social auditing, as well as running workshops and speaking at conferences on the subject of social auditing.

Training courses varied from 1 week to 18 months duration and the first course, run in the north of Ireland in the 1990's was accredited by the Northern Ireland Open College Network.

Most of the training was based on the Social Audit Workbook published by NEF (New Economics Foundation) and was delivered by myself or with other practitioners in Scotland , England , north of Ireland , Republic of Ireland , Norway , Finland and Sweden .

From 2001 I have based training and facilitation on the Social Audit Manual with some variations to meet specific needs of the organisations and countries. I have also been involved in translating training materials from English to Swedish.
