Social Accounting and Audit Training

Attended the two day Masterclass run by Alan Kay and John Pearce in December 2006

One of two social accountants for the CRNS as they successfully completed their first set of social accounts in August 2007 for the period 2006/07, wit support and guidance from Alan Kay of CBS Network.

I successfully completed the ILM Endorsed Award in Social Accounting and Audit run through the Social Enterprise Academy (Graduated December 2007) again with support and guidance from Alan Kay.

Attended the one day Social Auditor workshop run by John Pearce in Newcastle in July 2008

Panel member for the Wise Group social audit panel in July 2008 which was chaired by Mike Swain. I took a set of panel notes for this panel as part of my training.

Panel chair for Loch Fyne Oysters Ltd in October 2008, mentored by John Pearce.

Became an approved SAN social auditor in March 2009.

Work

I am currently employed as the Network Manager for the CRNS (Community Recycling Network for Scotland) where I have been for over four and a half years. I ma responsible for looking at the impact of the community recycling sector and am actively involved in social accounting, social return on investment, quality (in particular PQASSO) and looking at the environmental impact including carbon. I also coordinate the delivery of a range of services to the membership and wider community recycling sector. These include events and seminar programme, newsletter, website and various communications and updates.

Other Stuff

Prior to this Neil worked as the Development Officer for the Big Lottery's Transforming Waste Scotland programme and before that as the School and Community Liaison Officer with Action Recycle based in Falkirk.

I am passionate about the environment, in particular recycling and resource use, and very keen to see social accounting become social and environmental accounting!

In a former life I was a Naval Architect and I also spent 3 years teaching English in Japan.

I am actively involved in the Transition Towns movement in the Glasgow area, I am a Fellow of the RSA and a former Director of Friends of the Earth Scotland. I am married and live in Glasgow.
